AirPods 4 ANC Are About Comfort First
The open design is the whole point. If in-ear silicone tips make your ears feel plugged, itchy, or pressured, AirPods 4 ANC are the Apple earbuds you have probably been waiting for. You get useful noise reduction without the sealed feeling of AirPods Pro.
The tradeoff is that open-fit ANC cannot beat a sealed earbud. It reduces background noise, but it does not isolate you the same way.
AirPods Pro 2 Are Still the Better Travel Earbuds
AirPods Pro 2 remain the better choice for airplanes, trains, city commutes, gym noise, and focused work. The silicone seal gives the ANC a foundation that AirPods 4 cannot fully match. Pro 2 also supports Hearing Test and Hearing Aid with eligible software and regional availability. Those features are intended for adults 18 and older; Hearing Aid is for perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. They are not exclusive to the newer Pro 3.
If AirPods Pro fit your ears comfortably, the sealed tier is still the safer premium buy. Note that Apple has since discontinued the Pro 2 in favor of the AirPods Pro 3, so new Pro 2 stock is a while-supplies-last situation.

- Choose AirPods Pro 2 for flights, commuting, and loud offices.
