Historical launch schedule and announced US pricing. September 18 has passed: those products are released, even when an individual retailer shows a backorder. Each product links to its price comparison; confirm the seller's current stock and delivery estimate before ordering. Duo's dates are its launch schedule; new orders now ship much later.

The Duo backorder changes the choice between a Pro and Duo. The Pro phones are available now, while a Duo ordered today was reported shipping in late January. If the foldable is a serious candidate, try both in a store after October 23 and order early; if you need a phone sooner or prefer a conventional design, the Pro need not wait.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max

The Pro phones get Apple's 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, a variable-aperture 48MP Fusion Main camera, a smaller Dynamic Island, a redesigned vapor chamber, the Apple-designed C2 modem, and N1 wireless networking. Storage now runs from 256GB to 2TB, and the confirmed colors are burgundy, glacier, silver, and black.

The $1,199 Pro and $1,299 Pro Max are $100 above last year's launch starting prices. That makes verified clearance pricing on the iPhone 17 Pro family worth checking now. A model leaving Apple's new lineup does not establish a discount at another retailer; compare actual offers with matching storage, condition and carrier terms.

The camera deserves more attention than the chip's manufacturing process. Variable aperture changes how the main camera gathers light and controls depth of field. For a photographer, that can mean useful control in difficult lighting or group shots. For an automatic shooter, the question is whether the phone makes better decisions consistently. We need comparable original images to answer that, not just a new specification.

The cooling changes are most relevant to longer demanding sessions. Short social clips, messaging, and ordinary browsing do not establish the case for replacing a 17 Pro. Also, N1 is retained from that generation; it should not be counted as an entirely new wireless capability. Owners should identify the limit they actually encounter before paying to move up.

iPhone Duo: The Foldable Has a Name

Apple's first foldable is the iPhone Duo, a titanium book-style phone with a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. It uses the A20 Pro and pairs a 48MP main camera with a 48MP ultrawide. Apple rates it IP68 and offers 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities in star white or night sky.

At $1,999, this is an enthusiast purchase, not the value choice. Buyers who specifically want Apple's foldable form factor now have it; everyone else should wait for independent durability testing and real-world battery results before buying a first-generation design.

The strongest use case is doing something with the extra space repeatedly: consulting a document while writing a reply, comparing information across apps, or reading comfortably without carrying another screen. If your tablet still needs to come with you, Duo's premium buys convenience rather than a replacement-device saving. That can be worthwhile, but it is a different argument.

The compromises are equally concrete. Duo uses side-button Touch ID and lacks a dedicated telephoto camera. Its battery estimates vary by display and test type, and a water-resistance rating does not settle long-term hinge durability. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4

Both new watches use the S11 chip and Apple's new Health Sensing System, which adds higher-frequency heart-rate and HRV sampling plus a readiness score. Series 12 keeps the $399 entry price and the same 24-hour everyday battery claim as Series 11; a 15-minute charge can provide up to 12 hours of use.

Ultra 4 remains $799 and stretches the battery claim to 50 hours in everyday use or 84 hours in Low Power Mode. Its 45-hour Max Extended Workout claim requires Low Power Mode and disables alerts, splits, and some metrics. It should not be read as 45 hours of unrestricted workout tracking.

The important Series 12 question is whether faster charging and richer sensing remove a daily frustration. A person who misses sleep tracking because the watch is charging may value a better short top-up. A satisfied Series 11 owner whose routine already works may gain less. Readiness provides another way to interpret activity and sleep, but a score alone is not evidence of a better health outcome.

Ultra's larger battery is easier to justify when charging opportunities are scarce or activities are long. Buying it solely for the new sensing is less compelling because Series 12 shares that platform. AirPods 5 Were the Surprise

AirPods 5 bring open-ear Active Noise Cancellation starting at $129. Apple claims up to 50% more external noise removed than AirPods 4 with ANC. The standard version is rated for up to four hours with ANC, or 20 hours including the case. The $149 wireless-case version adds volume swipe and raises those ratings to five and 22 hours. These are different earbud configurations, not just different charging cases.

That makes the extra $20 more meaningful than the packaging first suggests. Someone who wants only short listening sessions can reasonably choose $129. A regular commuter may find the longer single-session battery and direct volume control worth the premium. The old ANC model already included wireless charging, so compare complete feature sets when judging a clearance offer.

Hardware Launch Day and Feature Availability Are Different Dates

Apple's September 14 iOS 27 release date and start of the Siri AI beta rollout have passed. Language, region and feature rollout still matter. That is separate from September 18 hardware availability, and the software is not a blanket reason to replace an otherwise supported iPhone. Check the feature's compatibility requirements before interpreting an event demonstration as a new-hardware exclusive.

Some highlighted capabilities come later: Apple describes USB-C Apple Pencil support for Duo and certain Watch-related software features as arriving later this year. Evaluate a preorder on the features confirmed for the date you will use the device. If a later feature is the reason you want it, there is a clear benefit to waiting until the released implementation can be judged.

The Buying Verdict

Buy one of the released products if its new capability solves a specific need: the Pro camera system, Ultra battery life or open-ear ANC. Duo buyers face a January wait for new orders. Value buyers should compare verified iPhone 17 Pro, Series 11 and Ultra 3 offers rather than assume every previous-generation model is immediately discounted.

If your current device works, write down the two or three frustrations a new one must solve and look for evidence on those points. If you want a deal, compare the same storage, size, connectivity, condition, warranty, and return policy. A discontinued label is not a discount.
